The Children of Sikkim

Registered UK charity No 1153784

The Children of Sikkim exists to support the education of disadvantaged children from Sikkim, in the Himalaya, NE India. We are a UK registered charity which helps such children to be educated in Sikkim and elsewhere in India, from primary school through to college or university. We give a child continuity of support so as to allow them to achieve their potential.
Imagine being able to completely change the life prospects of a poor child from remote Sikkim. Sponsoring a child's education for as little as £15 a month can help do just that.  Even smaller amounts can make a difference.

Buddhist by culture, poor Sikkimese children have no material possessions but are rich in outlook - open, optimistic, grateful, very bound to family, friendships and sharing.

In 2004 Samjyor was 10 years old. Unpaved mountainous roads made travelling daily to school impossible and his parents were too poor to pay for living away from home - his prospects were minimal. Then sponsorship transformed his education.
Now in 2017 he is a post-graduate law student at Delhi university, with a bright future, looking to go back to Sikkim and help development.

This site tells you about some of our experiences, contains sponsor remarks and a picture gallery, and tells you how to sponsor , donate or raise funds for the charity.

We hope this motivates you to help. If you do, you will know that 100% of what you provide is spent on education and support, because The Children of Sikkim is run by volunteers who take no expenses. In addition, if donors pay UK tax we can recover an additional 25% from the UK Government.
