Hissay completed her Masters in International Relations in July 2023, as we reported in our post about our October visit to Sikkim.
At the time she told us although she had tried for the civil service, she thought it would be difficult to find a job in Sikkim. She had been considering a PGCE to qualify as a teacher, but apparently the course requirements had changed from a 2 year to a 4 year course. We would not be able to support her in that.
However she then contacted us about a Masters degree in public relations in Mumbai. We thought that was a good idea because of the topic and because Mumbai is a vibrant commercial centre. We were able to offer partial support for that.
As it turns out, there were difficulties with the entry process, so in July 2024 Hissay started studying Political Science at the Postgraduate & Research Centre, St Joseph’s University in Bengaluru (Bangalore). We are helping with fees, and the Sikkim Government are supporting her living costs. She is hopeful that with a new government in Sikkim, state competitive exams will be reinstated. Political Science is a key qualification.
