Yesterday Hissey Bhutia started her BA in Political Science at Mount Carmel College (MCC) in Bangalore. Mount Carmel College is an autonomous body governed by Carmelite sisters of St. Teresa (CSST). Affiliated to Bangalore University, MCC is ranked among the top twenty colleges in India.

We have paid for Hissey’s education since she was 12, when she started at Dr Graham’s Homes school in Kalimpong. Before that she was a pupil at Sikkim Himalayan Academy, sponsored through our friends in the Dutch Trust, Stichting Kinderen van Sikkim.

Here she is (right), with her friend and PG Auntie (landlady in digs). Hissey has very much taken the initiative in organising her application, and managed to fly to Bangalore from Sikkim despite local unrest in northern West Bengal. We wish her every success and are very pleased to support her through her undergraduate career.

CHANGE A LIFE TODAY

The Children of Sikkim exists to support the education of disadvantaged children from Sikkim, in the Himalaya, NE India.

We are a UK registered charity which helps such children to be educated in Sikkim and elsewhere in India, from primary school through to college or university.

We give a young person continuity of support so as to allow them to achieve their potential.
