In September 2020 Miksim gained admission to Karnataka College of Nursing in Bangalore, to study GNM (General Nursing and Midwifery).
Because of Covid -19, progressing this has not been at all easy in North Sikkim where she lives. Her district has applied a particularly strict lockdown, which meant it was difficult for her to get to her local centre Mangan, and the state capital Gangtok. She needed to visit to complete her online registration, and also to open a bank account so we could send her the support she needs.
Since registration In November, she has been studying through remote learning, using a mobile phone that we bought for her. Miksim is very motivated, and we know she is studying hard and completing her home assignments.
The government of Karnataka ordered the opening of higher education for both online and offline attendance on the 15th January, but has not yet made an announcement about college hostels. They will need to reopen before Miksim can travel to Bangalore.
We hope she can travel soon and wish her good luck!
