My education has been supported by TCoS sponsors since I was five years old, when I started my schooling at a small school in North Sikkim. Later, I joined Dr. Graham’s Homes in Kalimpong, where I completed my ISC (Indian School Certificate) with good results. In 2020, I came to Bangalore to pursue the General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) course at Karnataka College of Nursing.
In 2023, I successfully completed my GNM course with good results. With the encouragement of The Children of Sikkim, I enrolled in the two-year Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing course, which upgrades my GNM qualification to a bachelor’s degree.
Although the course is normally completed in two years, there was an administrative issue, and I was not registered with the Indian Nursing Council for my second year. Thankfully, the college allowed me to repeat my first year without any additional fees, which has its advantages. I am now in my second year and, if everything goes well, I expect to complete my degree in 2027.
I have settled down well in Bangalore and have adjusted comfortably to college life. The weather here can be much hotter than in Sikkim, but apart from that everything is going well.
I am enjoying my nursing studies very much. Both the theory classes and the practical training are helping me improve my knowledge and skills. I especially enjoy my clinical postings, where I get the opportunity to interact with patients and learn from experienced nurses and doctors. The faculty members are supportive and always encourage us to do our best.
My examinations are likely to begin soon, so I am now concentrating on my studies and preparing well. I am putting in my best effort to achieve good results.
The photograph was taken during a medical camp where we provided basic healthcare services to the local community. Our role was to look after the participants who got injured while playing sports and matches by cleaning and dressing their wounds and provide first aid whenever needed.
We also checked the blood pressure , blood sugar levels of elderly people and other community members, gave them basic healthcare advice and assisted the doctors and healthcare team throughout the camp
After completing my degree and gaining some work experience, I hope to explore nursing opportunities abroad. I believe this will help me gain wider professional exposure, learn advanced healthcare practices, and continue developing my skills as a nurse. My aim is to build a successful career in nursing and provide the best possible care to my patients wherever I work.
