In October 2020, Rekchan was allocated a place at the School of Social Sciences, Shri Ramasamy Memorial University Sikkim (SRMUS) to study for the BA in Sociology, Economics and Politics. SRMUS is located at Tadong, which is near to Gangktok – the state capital of Sikkim.

This was a change of direction for Rekchan, who had been applying to colleges of physical education in Kolkota. However, it became clear that the impact of the pandemic was going to make that impossible for 2021, and he would have to wait another year, so he decided to pursue a different path.

In Gangtok he has been much helped by Nedup and Nimphuti, both former students at Dr Grahams Homes who have themselves been supported through higher education.

Rekchan is sharing lodgings with Nedup in Gangtok, and just finishing a series of online unit tests. Teaching on campus is due to start shortly.

Here he is in his university uniform. We wish him a successful fresher’s year!

The Children of Sikkim exists to support the education of disadvantaged children from Sikkim, in the Himalaya, NE India.

We are a UK registered charity which helps such children to be educated in Sikkim and elsewhere in India, from primary school through to college or university.

We give a young person continuity of support so as to allow them to achieve their potential.
