Topden is studying Optometry at Uttaranchal (P.G.) College of Bio-Medical Sciences & Hospital in Dehradun. In August 2022, he went on a “posting” to Vivekananda Netralaya Speciality Hospital, to learn more practical skills in a hospital setting.
In the meantime, the effects of the pandemic are becoming more apparent. Because hospital postings were put back, so has the exam schedule. Instead of finishing in the last quarter of 2022, the exams are going to be in March 2023. This left Topden with nowhere to live, so we have paid for a further semester in a college hostel, in a room shared with one other (previously he was in a room for four). We hope that will give him the best environment for study.
After his posting he was able to turn his attention to a professional conference in Dehradun and a student gathering at Ludhiana in Punjab. The first was organised by the college and the Uttarakhand Optometrist Association, so conveniently on his doorstep. The second is an upcoming Optometry Student Day where delegates come from all over India. It is important for him to be able to network in this way, as once he has graduated he will have to find an internship.
We wish him every success and will continue to support him.
