UK Business Support

Since 2003 when we co-founded Sikkim Himalayan Academy at Buriakop in Sikkim, most of our funding has come from individuals in Europe, UK and North America. Many are either past volunteers or have been encouraged by past volunteers to become sponsors. We also have corporate sponsors in UK, which we value greatly, and continue to seek out new sources of support. In the UK, because we are registered with the Charity Commission, corporate donations qualify for corporation tax relief. For more details please contact us.

Indian Business Support

India is the first country in the world to make corporate social responsibility (CSR) mandatory, following an amendment to the Companies Act, 2013 in April 2014. Businesses can invest their profits in areas such as education, poverty, gender equality, and hunger as part of any CSR compliance.

The thresholds for mandatory compliance are quite high. Companies have to exceed a certain market value, turnover or profit. However the existence of the legal framework has made CSR more of a concern within the business community, extending to small and medium size enterprises.

We actively seek support from Indian companies who have an interest in the education of young people from Sikkim.  So that Indian companies can benefit from tax deduction, we have partnered with Sri Kamakshi Seva Samithi (Registered Trust) in Mumbai, who will disburse funds received by them on our behalf. Donations also qualify as CSR contributions.  Contact details are:

The Children of Sikkim exists to support the education of disadvantaged children from Sikkim, in the Himalaya, NE India.

We are a UK registered charity which helps such children to be educated in Sikkim and elsewhere in India, from primary school through to college or university.

We give a young person continuity of support so as to allow them to achieve their potential.
